About The Ecotone Farm Team
Ecotone Farm is located in the beautiful country side community of Fellsmere, Florida at the northern range of South Florida. Jerry and Tamara Renick prepared for several years, one could even say a lifetime, before commencing their production of their first hydroponic lettuce crop in December 2012. We are a family owned farm that is focused on providing a high quality product using sustainable practices in a pesticide free manner.
Jerry is a more than 30 year environmental consulting professional including habitat restoration. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology (Washington College), and a Master of Science degree in Environmental Horticulture (University of Florida).

Tamara has a strong background in floraculture sales and marketing along with education in aquaculture from Harbor Branch Institute, in Ft. Pierce, Florida.
Together Jerry and Tamara bring a life time of experience and passion to their hydroponic farm.
About Hydroponics
Hydroponics is the science of growing plants in a nutrient solution rather than traditional farming in soil. The plant roots are exposed to an appropriate nutrient solution that allows the plant to grown in a soil less and contamination free environment. Production can be highly increased while minimizing the impacts to the environment from soil degradation, and release of excessive nutrients back into the environment. In addition, only organic based pesticides are used to protect our crops with no impacts to our plants or the natural environment.
Sustainability is the cornerstone for which Ecotone Farm continues to strive. As our world continues to evolve, so must our agricultural practices. Our farm continues to development and implement new ways to produce a healthy and delicious crop while reducing the amount of natural resources utilized to accomplish these goals. Deep culture tanks allow thousands of lettuce and leafy green plants to be produced while limiting the amount of water to be used, reducing the amount of additional fertilization for a balanced and robust crop, and nearly eliminate the release of waste product back into the natural environment.
It is Ecotone Farm’s goal to one day be able to have a net zero carbon footprint on the environment as part of our production process, and perhaps one day to be able to have a net positive carbon footprint (sequester more carbon from the atmosphere than utilized in our farm production process).
About Ecotone Farm
Ecotone Farm is a family owned and operated business that provides a farm to table experience. We have 4,000 square feet of climate controlled greenhouses for 365 day a year production of our lettuce and leafy greens. During the months of October through May we currently have 10,000 square feet of protected shadehouse production and are working towards expansion for the 2018-2019 season. Our deep culture tank production produces a “living plant” that keeps its roots intact from harvest to delivery which allows for our produce to be more vibrant and last longer until it is consumed.

Additionally, food safety is at the heart of our production and packaging process. We follow good agricultural practices (GAP) and good handling practices (GHP). We are food safety certified, and our product is 100% traceable from seed to packaging.
Our mission is to produce a high quality and nutritious product that has little to no impact on the natural environment, that is pesticide free, and non-GMO (Genetically Modified Organism). We are a local, family operated farm that grows using sustainable practices with responsible integrity to protect our environment for future generations.
