On January 5, 2019 Ecotone Farm was host to former U. S. Senator Mel Martinez and friends providing a farm tour and discussion on our hydroponic lettuce production and future expansion goals. The Martinez group first had a wonderful luncheon at Marsh Landing in Fellsmere, then a walking historic tour of the town by Indian River County Commissioner Susan Adams. The Martinez group visit to our town was capped off with a tour of Ecotone Farm including a brief demonstration of the seeding, germination, and grow out process in our climate controlled greenhouses. The group was very interested with our production methods and the final result of our beautiful and delicious varieties of lettuce and leafy greens. All received a sample to take home with them as can be seen by their smiling faces in the photograph below. Thank you to Mel and Kitty Martinez and friends for such a gracious and enjoyable visit and allowing Ecotone Farm the ability to share our vision for sustainable growing of fresh and local produce for our community.
